What To Do To Prepare Your Decking For Spring
Glory be! There is light at the end of what’s been a pretty dark tunnel, and added to that, the weather is fast improving after a chilly winter.
Conditions have prevented us from making the most of our outdoor spaces at home, which has made things doubly hard for many householders, but not for any longer as spring has finally sprung.
Have you been outside and given your garden decking the once over to see how it’s looking? Do that first before you start using it again.
It may need some attention, but probably not too much of it if you have UPVC decking, as opposed to traditional timber decking.
Here’s how to get it fit again for spring:
Remove all traces of winter
The decking will definitely need a good clean as dirt and debris will have built up on the boards and possibly become ingrained in them, and it may have a covering of dead leaves.
Hose down the decking to get the dirt out, and use a soft brush to sweep away the leaves, or buy a leaf blower if you want it done more quickly.
Check the deckboards
Once you have a nice, clean surface, do an inspection of the deckboards to check that they’re in no way damaged.
Wooden deckboards are prone to cracking, warping and splintering, and their fixings can sometimes loosen, putting your health and safety at risk.
Our UPVC decking, on the other hand, is durable, long-lasting and maintenance-free, so the deckboards should never suffer any damage, without you having to do a thing.
Get deck-orating
As soon as your decking looks spotless, you can then concentrate on doing some deck-orating.
It might be time to buy some new garden furniture that you can sit out on, or look into new lighting options for the space.
To give it some fresh colour, add a few colourful pot plants to the decking, if it’s big enough to do that.
